Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the anatomical features of P. acaulis subsp. rubra subspecies, which is widely distributed in Ordu province and its surrounding and and to reveal the similarities and differences with other taxa.
Materials and Methods: Plant samples were collected from Ordu province in 2019. Cross sections of the root, pedicel and rhizomes and both cross sections and surface sections of the leaves of the collected plants were taken by hand. Anatomical measurements were made using NIS Elements Imaging Software 3.00 SP5 program. Stomata index in plants has been calculated.
Results: There are idioblast cells in the stem, rhizome and pedicel of the species. The root is the pentaark. The leaf is amphystomatic and bilateral types. Leaf epidermis cells have wavy walls. Anticlinal walls are curved. The mesophyll layer consists of 1-2 layers of palisade parenchyma and 2-3 layers of sponge parenchyma. There are anomocytic type stomata on the lower and upper surfaces of the leaves. The stomata index was found to be 8.33 for the adaxial surface of the leaf and 11.9 for the abaxial surface. There are unicellular and multicellular glandular hairs on the pedicel and leaves. The glandular hairs are peltate and capitate types.
Conclusion: As a result, with this study, the anatomical features of P. acaulis subsp. rubra subspecies were determined and the similarities and differences with other taxa were tried to be revealed. Detailed examination of the anatomical features of the genus will provide better recognition of the taxon. More studies are needed on the taxa that are widely distributed in hazelnut orchards in Ordu and its surroundings. Thus, P. acaulis subsp. rubra taxon can be brought into the economy as both a medicinal plant and an ornamental plant.
