Designing sound contingent valuation studies and deriving valid willingness to pay estimates for preserving
wildlife and hunting benefits involves that researchers and beneficiaries have enough information about wildlife
resources and its active and passive benefits. But present information about many wildlife areas in Turkey is
insufficient for these studies and limits to attempt valuing wildlife in the country. This issue was faced in a case
study related to valuing wildlife in Bartin County. In this study pre-interview surveys implemented to active and
passive interest groups were used as a solution way. The particular information about wildlife ecosystems and
demands on preservation and utilization of wildlife resources involved in contingent valuation method study in
Bartin County was collected in detail with this survey. This information was used for preparing an info-card
about present conditions of wildlife resources and a scenario card that includes a hypothetical conservation and
improvement project and related maps.
