In
this study, “Literacy of Map and Direction” in Social Sciences Teaching Methods
in Primary Education, from the proclamation of the Republic to the present, has
been examined considering how and in what proportion it has been taken place.
This study has been designed and carried out in scanning model. The data in
this study have been collected by examining documents. Social Sciences Teaching
Methods in Primary Education have been restructured with the changes and
developments in the social, economic and political fields of the period and
with the new approaches in education. Literacy of map and direction, being a
vital need, has kept its continuity in the programs such as the Primary School Programs
in 1924, 1926 and 1948, and it has been seen that it has taken place in a more
comprehensive way and in a more planned way in the later programs. In the
study, it has been determined that the aims, explanations, subjects and instruments
about the literacy of map and direction have been mentioned in Social Sciences
Teaching Programs.
