It was aimed to determine the bird diversity of Ankara University 10. Yıl (Beşevler) Campus that 66 bird species from 28 families and 14 orders have been identified on the campus in this study. Of the species observed on campus, 20 are residents, 28 are passage migrants, 4 are summer migrants, and 14 are winter migrant species. The number of confirmed breeding species within the campus were 13. In addition, 4 species were found to have a high probability of breeding (probable) while 2 were found a possibility of breeding (possible).
Many bird species migrate to their breeding sites in the northern hemisphere in spring and back to wintering sites in the southern hemisphere in autumn through the Central Anatolia Region that is located on the Mediterranean/ Black Sea migration flyway. Ankara University 10.Yıl Campus is also on these important migration route with making a significant contribution to the biodiversity of the urban ecosystem by hosting not only migrating birds but also breeding, wintering, and resident birds.
