Bir Metin İki Kültür: Shakespeare’de Söyleşimci İmgelerin Türk Edebiyat Çoğuldizgesinde Görünürlüğü

Öz

Her toplumun yaşantısı, üretilen yazınsal eserlere yansımaktadır. Bir yazınsal metin, içine doğduğu toplumun edebiyat çoğuldizgesinden başka bir kültürün edebiyat çoğuldizgesine çevrilirken özgün metnin yansıttığı toplumsal yaşantılar yazın çevirmenlerine zorluklar çıkarabilmektedir. Bir metnin kendinden önceki metinlere bir cevap, kendinden sonraki metinlere de yol açıcı bir unsur olduğunu öne süren ve bu ilişkiyi “söyleşimcilik” olarak terimleştiren Bakhtin, bir yazınsal metnin söyleşimci imgelerle örüldüğünü öne sürerken toplumsal yaşantıların da yazınsal metinlerde söyleşimci unsurlar olarak karşımıza çıktığını belirtmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Bakhtin’in söyleşimcilik kavramı ve kuramı temel alınarak Shakespeare’in Romeo and Juliet başlıklı tragedyasını önceleyen metinler ile bu tragedyanın öncelediği sanatsal eserler tartışılarak aynı zamanda bu tragedya bir yazınsal metin olarak ele alınarak yansıttığı toplumsal olgular ve olaylar saptanmıştır. Özgün metinde saptanan söyleşimci toplumsal olgu ve olayları içeren söylemler, metnin dört Türkçe çevirisiyle karşılaştırılmıştır. Yanmetinsellik kapsamında çeviri metnin kapağı, çevirmen notları, çevirmen ön sözleri ve son sözleri gibi metni çevreleyen öğeler yoluyla çevirmenin görünürlüğü veya görünmezliği tartışılırken aynı zamanda yazın çevirmenlerinin tikel göstergelerin çevirisindeki görünürlük ve görünmezlik durumları da tartışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Yapılan çözümleme ve bulgular ışığında, Shakespeare eserlerinin Türk edebiyat çoğuldizgesinde çeviri eserlerin merkez konuma gelmesiyle birlikte özellikle 1940 yılları sonrası çok sayıda farklı çevirmenlerce Türkçeye kazandırıldığı; özgün metinlerdeki söyleşimci imgelerin çevirisinde yazın çevirmenlerinin görünürlük veya görünmezlik karşıtlıklarından birini yeğlemediği, ancak bir Shakespeare eserinde üretilen toplumsal yaşam temelli söyleşimci imgelerin çevirisinde Shakespeare imgeleminin Türk okuruna tanıtılmasıyla çevirmenlerin görünür olduğu öne sürülebilir.

One Text, Two Cultures: Visibility of Shakespeare’s Dialogic Images in the Turkish Literary Polysystem

Öz

The lifestyle of each society is reflected in their literary works. The social experiences and communally shared knowledge reflected in an original text could cause difficulties for literary translators in translating a text from its original literary polysystem to that of another culture. Bakhtin coined the term “dialogism” for the proposition that each literary text serves as a response to the already produced literary texts while paving the way for the other literary texts to come as a response to it. Bakhtin further adds that any literary text is woven with dialogic images, and the social lifestyle of a culture should also count as dialogic elements in literary texts. In this study, the tragedy titled Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare is discussed in relation to its antecedent texts and the art works pursuant to that tragedy based on dialogism. Besides the dialogic relation between that tragedy and other works of art, the social lifestyle and phenomena reflected in the text are also determined as dialogic images. The contexts with dialogic social phenomena in the original text are compared to four Turkish translations of the text. This comparison is built upon a discussion of (in)visibility of the translator in translation of specific dialogic images. In addition, the cover pages of the texts, the translator's foreword, or the translator's notes are also examined and analyzed with a view to discussion of the translator’s (in)visibility. As a result of the analysis, it could be suggested that Shakespeare's works have been translated into Turkish by many translators, especially since the year 1940, with the translated literature gaining the center position in the Turkish literary polysystem. Moreover, it could be argued that the translators do not favor one end over the other in the visibility vs. invisibility spectrum in translation of dialogic images; however, introduction of Shakespearean dialogic imagination to Turkish readers in translation of social life-based dialogic images ensures the visibility of the translator in translating a Shakespearean work of literature.
