Background: The basis of psychiatric nursing is the relationship between the nursing nurse and the patient. Nurse-patient communication is used as a means of establishing an enhancing relationship. Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the attitudes and behaviors of nurses working in mental health region hospitals towards care focused nurse-patient interaction. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with nurses working in the adult psychiatric ward of five mental health regional hospitals. 155 nurses at total participated to the study. "Nurse Information Form" and "Care Focused Nurse Patient Interaction Scale" were used to collect of data. The data of the research were evaluated using the IBM SPSS V25 program. Number (n), percent (%), median values and Kruskal Wallis H test, Mann Whitney U test and post-hoc tests were used in the analysis of the data. Results: 71% of the nurses participating in the study are women, 74.2% are undergraduate and 45.8% have 11 years or more of working experience. Their average age is 34.5 ± 8.8. The total mean scores of the nurses for the scale were found as 311 in the importance sub-dimension, 296 in the adequacy sub-dimension, and 283 in the feasibility sub-dimension. Conclusion: The attitudes and behaviors of the nurses participating in the study towards care-focused nurse-patient interaction were found to be at a positive level. It is recommended to encourage nurses to receive postgraduate education in the field of mental health, to plan trainings on communication and recovery-oriented care and to conduct more studies with large sample groups on care-oriented nurse-patient interaction.
