Muslims have focused on the quality of Holy Qur’an qiraah (Qur’an recitation) from the date of divine inspiration started. From the first period, educational complexes were established in this context. In the Ottoman period, the institutions where the Qur’an and ashera-approx education given were named as dârulqurrâ – dârulhuffaz (educational institutions of recitation - educational institutions of recitators). These dârulqurrâ were in certain centers of Anatolia. One of these centers was established in today’s Elazig province, Palu district. It is known by the official records that in the Ottoman Period, higher specialized education in the field of ashera-approx was given institutionally at dârulqurrâ in Palu. This dârulqurrâ was built about Zeve, located in the Southwest of the Palu fortress. Sayyid Hâmid bin al-Hajj Abdulfettâh al-Paluvî, who is known as şeyhulqurrâ (chief of qiraah science) was appointed as the chief professor of this dârulqurrâ. Sayyid Hâmid completed his education in Tokat, Hatuniye Madrasa (university) and wrote his specialization book named Zübtetü’l-İrfân (the essence of wisdom), which will be mentioned in the science of qiraah there. It is known that Hâmid bin Abdulfettâh, who completed his work in 1173/1759, came to Palu for the construction of the dârulqurrâ. He had started education in 1179/1765 at this dârulqurrâ, which is known to be completed in six years. This dârulqurrâ was built by Sayyid Mustafa bin Sayyid Abdulbâkî, one of Palu’s residents.
