Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), who lived in an area where Arabic language and culture were predominant, made use of the local culture in determining his words and behaviors. In order to speak eloquently, he utilized the exclamations, words and maxims in Arabic, which laconically expressed emotions, thrill and enthusiasm. Such that his addressing to Ashab who took responsibilities in critical times with exclamatory statements, became a part of the Prophet’s expression. For powerfully expressing his attachment to two companions who relieved him from his troubles, he said to them: “Let my parents be sacrificed for you!” Ashab also liked this honoring manner and used the same expression towards him and each other. Sacrificing parents to gain the respect of the interlocutor is a powerful and impressive example of self-abnegation. However, it should be questioned that whether or not this statement is actually a phrase unique to the Islamic culture. And also, the word "O Messenger of Allah, may our lives/parents be sacrificed for you!" is it a continuation of the same effect, or not. In this paper, the using forms of that phrase from past to present is determined with a historical approach and its using suitability today, is discussed.
