Objective: This study aimed to test the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Intensive Care Unit Dignity Care Scale developed by Liang et al. (2022) to measure intensive care nurses' self-assessed patient dignity protection behaviors during patient care.
Methods: This study has a methodological design for psychometric testing and validation of the Intensive Care Unit Dignity Care. The study was conducted on 103 intensive care nurses, 75 women, and 28 men aged 18 to 53 (X̄=31.46±9.12). In the first stage of the study, language equivalence was ensured. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed with IBM AMOS 20.0 program for construct validity.
Results: According to the results of CFA, the Turkish version of the scale has 17 items and a two-dimensional structure as in the English version. The model fit indices of the scale were acceptable (χ2/sd=1.53, RMSEA=0.07, SRMR=0.07, and CFI=0.92). The item-total correlation coefficients of the scale ranged between 0.28 and 0.78. As a result of the reliability analyses of the Intensive Care Unit Dignity Care and its subscales, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated as 0.89 for the whole scale and 0.82 for the Absolute Dignity and Relative Dignity subscales.
Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Intensive Care Unit Dignified Care Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to evaluate the attitudes of intensive care unit nurses toward patient dignity. The Intensive Care Unit Dignity Care can help intensive care nurses identify their behaviors in protecting patient dignity and discover their deficiencies.
