This study was conducted to compare the effects of weight-loss diets containing daily 800 mg and 1200 mg calcium provided by milk and dairy products on body weight and body fat loss. Obese individuals between the ages of 24-45 were included and they were randomly divided into 2-groups (n=30). General characteristics and nutritional habits were questioned. Moreover energy and nutrient intakes were calculated by taking 3-day food consumption records. Anthropometric measurements were taken at the beginning and the end of the study. Body weight loss was 7.4±1.4 kg and 8.5±1.8 kg (p=0.012); body fat loss was 4.8±1.8 kg and 6.4±2.1 kg in the 800 mg and 1200 mg calcium-diet groups (p=0.002), respectively. An average of 5.3% and 6.9% reduction in body fat mass was found in the 800 mg and 1200 mg calcium-diet groups, respectively (p=0.031). As a result, it can be said that increasing the daily calcium intake with the consumption of milk and dairy products resulted in a more significant decrease in body weight and body fat mass in obese. For this reason, it is thought that more concern should be maintenance to increasing the consumption of milk and dairy products in weight-loss diets.
