Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a persistent pathogen and it is difficult to control because of its antibiotic re-
sistance. In our study, a sample of 100 swabs taken from the nasal cavity of dogs from October to December 2017 in
a private veterinary clinic in Kuşadası district of Aydın were examined. After the samples had been taken, they were
brought to Aydın Adnan Menderes University Veterinary Faculty Microbiology Routine Diagnosis laboratory under
cold chain. In consequences of performed microbiological tests, 11 P. aureginosa were isolated and identified, and an-
tibiotic susceptibility tests were performed by using Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method. All of the 11 identified strains
were determined resistant to Amoxicillin clavulonic acid, Ampicillin/sulbactam, İmipemen, Cloxacillin and Penicillin/
Novobiosin. Seven of the isolates were resistant to Kanamycin/Cephaleksin (64%) while 4 of them (36%) were sensi-
tive. However, 5 isolates were detected moderately-sensitive (45%) and 6 isolates were sensitive (55%) to oxytetracy-
cline. And all identified bacteria were reported to be sensitive to Enrofloxacin and Gentamicin. In bacterial diseases, af-
fecting the respiratory tract in dogs, identification of the agent and selection of the correct antibiotic are very important.
The results showed that P. aeruginosa isolates had multiple antibiotic resistances. However, in the clinically relevant
cases, Enrofloxacin and / or Gentamicin are recommended for treatment.
