Öz

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of early negative childhood experiences on separation-individuation and life satisfaction. For this purpose, 209 university students aged between 20 and 28 (mean = 21.99) were included in the study. Childhood Adverse Experiences Scale and Separation Individuation Inventory, Life Satisfaction Scale and Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher were used as data collection tools within the scope of the research. 68.9% of students reported that they were exposed to at least one negative childhood experience before the age of 18. Emotional abuse (46.9% n=98) had the highest prevalence among all negative experiences, followed by physical abuse (40.2% n=84) and domestic violence (57% n=27.3), respectively. According to the results of the correlation analysis, it was observed that negative childhood experiences had a significant predictive effect on separation-individuation pathology. The findings of the study were discussed in the light of the relevant literature and suggestions were made to the researchers for future studies.
