Ismet Inönü went to an Eastern trip with President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk during his Prime Ministership in 1935. During this trip, he visited many cities and obtained socially, economically and strategically important information and impressions, and prepared a comprehensive report at the end of the trip. It was the first arrival of Inönü, who visited Giresun on August 3, 1935, after Erzincan as part of his eastern trip. Inönü was welcomed with great enthusiasm by people in Giresun. He spent about two days doing researches in Giresun, observing epidemics, poverty and the social depression in the society. Especially, he had started a struggle against drinking and gambling, which had a negative impact on the countryside. In this struggle, priority was given to such activities as education, literacy and the transformation of coffee houses into sports clubs. On August 3, the day when Inönü first arrived in Giresun, during the presidential term, it was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the city with the decision taken by the party representatives in Giresun in 1942. In this study, the process of Inönü's first visit to Giresun and the Inönü Day, which is celebrated in the city by the locals after, will be discussed in archival documents and light of the press data of the period.
