Covid-19 Karantina Süreçlerinin Besin Tüketimi ve Vücut Ağırlık Değişimleri Üzerine Etkileri: 1 Yılda Ne Değişti?

Öz

Amaç: Salgında en etkili koruma yöntemi olarak düşünülen karantina uygulamasının, yetişkin bireylerin besin tüketim alışkanlıkları, besin destek kullanımı ve bazı antropometrik ölçümlerine etkisinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya birinci karantina sürecinde 135, ikinci karantina sürecinde 270 olmak üzere toplamda 405 kişi katılmıştır. Veriler online anket ile toplanmıştır.
Bulgular: Birinci karantinanın yaşandığı zaman bireylerin %70.4’ü besin tüketim miktarlarının arttığını belirtirken, %29.4’ü azaldığını beyan etmiştir. İkinci karantinanın yaşandığı süreçte ise bireylerin %43.3’ü besin tüketim miktarının arttığını, %17.4’ü ise azaldığını, %39.3’ü ise besin tüketiminde değişiklik olmadığını belirtmiştir. Besin tüketimindeki artışın vücut ağırlığı üzerine etkileri de gözlenmiştir. Birinci karantinanın yaşandığı dönemde bireylerin çoğunlukla; yumurta, taze sebze ve taze meyve ve ikinci karantinanın yaşandığı süreçte ise çay, taze meyve ve kahve tüketimlerinde artış olduğu saptanmıştır. Bireylerin %24,1’i besin desteği kullanmaktadır. En çok kullanılan besin destekleri; D vitamini (%89.2), C vitamini (%63.1) ve demir (%43.1)’dir. Besin desteği kullanan bireylerin çoğu bağışıklık sistemlerini güçlendirmek amacıyla destek kullandıklarını belirtmişlerdir (%67.7).
Sonuç: Karantina süreci bireylerin besin tüketim davranışını etkilemiş, besin tüketim miktarında ve vücut ağrılıklarında artışlara neden olmuştur. İleri zamanlarda yaşanması muhtemel karantina durumlarına yönelik planlamaların yapılmasında bu değişimlerin göz önüne alınarak, karantina süreçlerinde besin tedarik, hazırlama ve tüketim konularında halkın bilinçlendirilmesi ve bireylerin kaygı ve streslerinin azaltılması, ev için fiziksel aktivitelerinin artırılmasının teşvik edilmesi gerekmektedir.

Effects of Covid-19 Quarantine on Food Consumption and Weight Changes: What Has Changed in 1 Year?

Öz

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of quarantine practice, which is considered as the most effective protection method in the epidemic, on the food consumption habits, dietary supplement use and some anthropometric measurements of adults.
Materials and Methods: A total of 405 adults participated in this study, (first period; 135 and second period; 270). Data were collected with an online questionnaire.
Results: When the first quarantine was experienced, 70.4% of the participants stated that their food consumption amount increased and 29.4% of participants stated that it was decreased. During second quarantine, 43.3% of the individuals stated that food consumption increased,17.4% stated that it decreased. The increment of food consumption affected to weight. During first quarantine period, consumption of eggs, fresh vegetables and fresh fruit were increased and during the second period, consumption of tea, fresh fruit and coffee was increased. 24.1% of participants use nutritional supplements. The most commonly used nutritional supplements are vitamin D (89.2%), vitamin C (63.1%) and iron (43.1%) Most of the individuals stated that they used nutritional supplements to strengthen their immune systems (67.7%).
Conclusion: The quarantine processes affected the food consumption behaviour of people, and caused to food consumption and weight increment. Considering these changes in planning for possible quarantine in the future, it is necessary to raise awareness of the public on food supply, preparation and consumption, and to reduce the anxiety and stress of individuals, to encourage the increase of physical activities at the home during quarantine processes.
