The most effective way for people to express their thoughts is to be able to speak. Conversation between two units is defined as communication. While feelings and thoughts are conveyed to the interlocutors through communication, the shaping of social and cultural life also takes place in this way. Metaphors are one of the different ways of expressing thoughts. This medium of expression, which is very effective in understanding and explaining abstract concepts, requires a certain cultural equipment. Therefore, there is a strong and complementary relationship between education and communication. The purpose of this research is to determine the perceptions of pre-service teachers regarding the concept of communication through metaphors. Phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. The study group of the research consists of 499 volunteer pre-service teachers attending the first and fourth grades of Kırıkkale University Faculty of Education. The data of the research “I think communication is like/similar to ............... Because .........” was collected through an open-ended form. Content analysis technique was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the findings obtained in the research, it was seen that the pre-service teachers produced 231 metaphors. The metaphors produced were handled in 7 different categories. Accordingly, it was seen that the metaphors developed by the pre-service teachers regarding the concept of communication mostly focused on the concepts of water, flower, breathing and tree. Finally, it was determined that teacher candidates' perceptions of communication were generally positive.
