ABSTRACT
Aim: This study aimed to examine the effects of university students' participation in dance activities on their communication skills.
Material-Method: The research was carried out in a quasi-experimental design model with pre-test post-test control group. 196 students , 130 female (X age = 20,45± 1,77) and 66 male (X age = 21,21± 2,50) participated in this research at Mersin University. While 58 female) and 32 male constituted the experimental group, 72 female and 34 Males were in the control group. The Personal Information Form and the Communication Skills Scale developed by Korkut (1996) were applied to the participants to measure the communication skills of the students. Descriptive statistics , independent T test and paired sample T test were used in data analysis.
Findings: According to the findings, it was seen that the Communication Skills Scale pretest scores of the students in the experimental and control groups did not differ significantly from each other (t=0.924, p>0.05). In addition, it was found that the Communication Skills Scale posttest scores of the students in the experimental group (107.27±8.18) were significantly higher than the posttest scores of the students in the control group (100.93±7.70). It was revealed in the study that the scores of the participants in the experimental group participating in the dance activities were significantly higher than the participants in the control group who did not participate in the dance activities..
Conclusion: It is found that the dance affects the communication skills positively.
