Analyzing Technology Readiness Level of Tourism Academicians based on Certain Demographic Variables

Öz

Recent crises and technological advancements have prompted the integration of technology in education. Nonetheless, for technology to be effectively implemented in the education system, it must be accepted by all stakeholders involved. This study examines the inclination of tourism academicians towards technology based on specific demographic variables, analysed using statistical methods. In this quantitative study, tourism academicians self-identify as explorer, while also considering both face-to-face and hybrid education options, beyond solely distance education. Notably, high scores for optimism and insecurity were observed among the participants. The technology readiness index's discomfort and insecurity dimensions remain unchanged by socio-demographic variables. Optimism regarding technology differs by gender, with male generally having a more positive outlook than female. Both optimism and innovation differ depending on the teaching system employed. Moreover, the innovativeness dimension varies depending on technology clusters. Assisting tourism academics in adopting new technologies could reveal more favourable attitudes towards technology.

Turizm Akademisyenlerinin Teknolojiye Hazır Bulunma Düzeyinin Bazı Demografik Değişkenler Açısından İncelenmesi

Öz

Son dönemde yaşanan krizler ve teknolojik gelişmeler teknolojinin eğitime entegrasyonunu hızlandırmıştır. Ancak teknolojinin eğitim sisteminde etkili bir şekilde uygulanabilmesi için ilgili tüm paydaşlar tarafından kabul edilmesi gerekmektedir. Bu çalışma, turizm akademisyenlerinin teknolojiye yönelik eğilimlerini istatistiksel yöntemlerle analiz edilen belirli demografik değişkenlere göre incelenmiştir. Bu niceliksel çalışmada turizm akademisyenleri kendilerini kaşif olarak tanımlarken, uzaktan eğitimden ziyade hibrit ve yüzyüze eğitim seçeneklerini tercih ettikleri görülmüştür. İyimserlik ve güvensizlik boyutlarının aritmetik ortalamalarının diğer boyutlara göre daha yüksek olduğu gözlenmiştir. Teknolojiye hazırlık bulunma düzeyinin rahatsızlık ve güvensizlik boyutları sosyo-demografik değişkenlere göre değişmemektedir. İyimserlik ise cinsiyete göre farklılaşmaktadır; teknoloji konusunda erkekler kadınlara göre daha optimistik bir bakış açısına sahiptir. Hem iyimserlik hem de yenilikçilik, kullanılan öğretim sistemine bağlı olarak farklılık göstermektedir. Ayrıca yenilikçilik boyutu teknoloji kümelerine göre farklılık göstermektedir. Turizm akademisyenlerinin yeni teknolojileri benimsemelerine yardımcı olmak, teknolojiye yönelik daha olumlu tutumları ortaya çıkarabileceği düşünülmektedir.
