Selection a profession is one of the most important decisions a person makes in life. With the chosen profession, the individual directs his life and determines his limits and standards. However, due to the presence of many criteria affecting the choice of profession, individuals have difficulty in making the right decision. In the light of previous studies, profession selection affecting criteria (Promotion Opportunities, Job Security, Professional Earnings, Flexible Working Conditions, Social Opportunities, Personal Skills, Authority and Superiority, Family Expectation, Lifelong Learning, Job Opportunities) were determined. With the help of DEMATEL method, these criteria were analyzed causality in maritime profession selection. Thanks to the analysis results obtained by the evaluation of 10 experienced participants from the maritime field, it is aimed that the individuals who will choose the maritime profession will be able to recognize the maritime profession correctly and understand / compare the compliance with their own standards. The results of the analysis show that the most influencing criterion in the maritime profession selection is job opportunities and the most affected criterion is family expectation.
