The stage can be described as a workplace, where one faces his/her inner world, at the
same time performs his/her art and tries to reflect it simply and purely to the other side,
namely the audience. One, who can perform successfully, when he/she is alone, may not
reach the same success on the stage, while he/she is facing the audience. Stage fear and
anxiety come out to be a situation, which many performer candidates and performers
have to overcome. Hence, first of all, one should acknowledge himself/herself, be aware
of his/her handicaps, improve and shape himself/herself according to them. The objective
of this study is to find out the reasons of performance anxiety and to examine the coping
techniques. As the method, the concepts of attention, stress and anxiety were analyzed, and
literature was reviewed for the coping techniques with anxiety. According to the results,
performance anxiety is encountered in performers frequently. In the literature, practices
of getting to the root of negative automatic thinking and its elimination were done through
cognitive regulation technique, as well as practices of bringing the situation under control
through exposure therapy, thus the anxiety level was decreased. Via deep relaxation and
rapid relaxation techniques, which are relaxation techniques against anxiety, heart rate
and respiration were regulated and slowed down via breath and thought in order to
provide one to overcome anxiety in an easier way. It has been concluded, that while
dealing with anxiety, using more than one method can reduce anxiety faster.
