This study aims to measure the effect of intellectual thinking on social media usage. In the study, the relationship between university students' intellectual thinking disposition and social media usage purposes was examined. The sample of the research consists of 376 (n=376) students determined by proportional stratified random sampling method among the students studying in the undergraduate and graduate programs of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University in the 2020-2021 academic year. The research was designed with a scanning pattern and online survey technique was used as the data collection technique. The analysis of the collected data was analyzed and interpreted in the SPSS-22 statistical program. As a result of the study, a significant difference was found between intellectual thinking disposition and grade level. On the purposes of using social networks of the sub-dimensions of intellectual thinking; It has been shown that it has a significant effect on communication initiation, communication maintenance and cooperation.
