NOVEL APPROACH TO WAKE TURBULENCE CATEGORIES AND EFFECTS ON AIR TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT

Yıl 2016, Cilt: 57 Sayı: 680, 42 - 50, 27.10.2016

The runway capacity depends on the wake turbulance categories and separation standards of arriving/
departing aircraft. Currently, ICAO wake turbulence separation standards are applied all around the
world. According to EUROCONTROL and FAA, current separation standards are safe but, on the other hand they are over conservative. Therefore, they have developed re-categorization of ICAO wake
turbulence categories and called “RECAT”.
In this paper, the process and the requirement of RECAT are described. Afterwards, wake turbulence
re-categorization and separation standards are reviewed and their effects are introduced from the point
of air traffic management. Finally, the benefits and application of RECAT in terms of airspace users
are discussed.

UÇAK KUYRUK TÜRBÜLANS KATEGORİLERİNDE YENİLİKLER VE HAVA TRAFİK YÖNETİMİ ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİLERİ

Pist kapasitesinin, iniş ve kalkış yapan uçaklar arasındaki kuyruk türbülansı ayırma değerleri ile bağlantılı olması nedeniyle, Avrupa Hava Seyrüsefer Güvenliği Teşkilatı (EUROCONTROL-The European Organization for The Safety of Air Navigation) ve Federal Havacılık Dairesi (FAA-Federal
Aviation Administration) şu an kullanılan Uluslararası Sivil Havacılık Teşkilatı (ICAO-International
