Applicability of situational leadership model in choral conducting education

Öz

Leadership is a very popular field of study today. It has become an interdisciplinary concept due to the fact that it is the focus of studies conducted in different fields depending on changing social conditions and needs. Leadership is also related to the conducting position in music group management. When the data obtained from open sources are examined, it is seen that the “leadership” dimension of conducting is neglected in the trainings given in the fields of choir and orchestra conducting. The aim of this research is to examine the leadership phenomenon in the process of choir conducting and education and to model the applicability of the situational leadership model for choir conductors with sample approach forms. In this context, the basic concepts of the situational leadership model (SLT) developed by Hersey and Blanchard and the findings of the researches conducted in the literature on “choir conducting, education and leadership” are examined and discussed.The physical data of the study structured according to the qualitative research model was obtained by document review method. Documents are accepted as “physical data” in the literature. According to the findings obtained; It was concluded that the number of studies conducted in the choir conducting and leadership literature is insufficient, the situational leadership model is a preferred model among successful choir conductors, choir studies planned according to the situational leadership model create remarkably positive results, in this context, the situational leadership model is a applicable model for choir conductors, the leadership dimension is neglected in choir conducting education, and the content of the programs prepared during the choir conducting education process should include courses on leadership.

Koro şefliği eğitiminde durumsal liderlik modelinin uygulanabilirliği

Öz

Liderlik, günümüzde oldukça popüler bir çalışma alanıdır. Değişen toplumsal koşullara ve ihtiyaçlara bağlı olarak farklı alanlarda yürütülen çalışmaların ilgi odağı olması nedeniyle, disiplinlerarası bir kavram haline gelmiştir. Müzik toplulukları yönetiminde de liderlik, şeflik pozisyonu ile ilişkilidir. Açık kaynaklardan elde edilen veriler incelendiğinde, koro ve orkestra şefliği alanlarında verilen eğitimlerde şefliğin “liderlik” boyutunun ihmal edildiği görülmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, koro şefliği ve eğitimi sürecinde liderlik olgusunu irdeleyerek, koro şefleri için durumsal liderlik modelinin uygulanabilirliğini örnek yaklaşım biçimleri ile modellemektir. Bu bağlamda, Hersey ve Blanchard tarafından geliştirilen durumsal liderlik modelinin (SLT) temel kavramları ve alanyazında “koro şefliği, eğitimi ve liderlik” konularında yapılan araştırmaların bulguları incelenerek tartışılmıştır. Nitel araştırma modeline göre yapılandırılan çalışmanın fiziksel verileri, doküman inceleme yöntemi ile elde edilmiştir. Literatürde dokümanlar “fiziksel veri” olarak kabul edilmektedir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre; koro şefliği ve liderlik alanyazınlarında yapılan çalışmaların sayıca yetersiz olduğu, durumsal liderlik modelinin başarılı koro şefleri arasında tercih edilen bir model olduğu, durumsal liderlik modeline göre planlanan koro çalışmalarının dikkate değer biçimde olumlu sonuçlar yarattığı, bu bağlamda durumsal liderlik modelinin koro şefleri için uygulanabilir bir model olduğu, koro şefliği eğitiminde liderlik boyutunun ihmal edildiği, koro şefliği eğitimi sürecinde hazırlanan programların içeriklerinde liderlikle ilgili derslerin yer alması gerektiği sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır.
