Aim: This study was carried out to determine the relationship between cognitive flexibility and creativity levels of health sciences students.
Material and Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in 2018-2019 academic year in the Faculty of Health Sciences at a state university in the Aegean region in Turkey. 167 students from the departments of “Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics and Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation participated in the study. Socio-demographic information form, Cognitive Flexibility Scale and Marmara Creative Thinking Dispositions Scale were used to collect data.
Results: Of the research group, 34.1% were nursing, 34.1% were nutrition-dietitician and 31.7% were physical therapy and rehabilitation students. The total score of the students’ “Cognitive Flexibility Scale” was 48.35 ± 5.03 and the total score of “Marmara Creative Thinking Dispositions Scale” was 94.64 ± 11.62. A significant positive correlation was found between the total score of the “Cognitive Flexibility Scale” and the total score and the subscale scores of the “Marmara Creative Thinking Dispositions Scale”.
Conclusion: In this study, it was found that cognitive flexibility of health sciences students was moderate, creative thinking dispositions were high. As the cognitive flexibility levels increased, creative thinking dispositions increased.
