Dinlenik Metabolik Hız İndirek Kalorimetre Kestirim Formülleri
The purpose of the study is to compare the most
commonly used predictive formulas of resting metabolic
rate used in the field with the indirect caloric
method. The study group consisted of 20 males
(Xage=39,512,5 years, Xweight =78,8 12,5 kg, Xheight
=173,6 6,4 cm, Xbmi=26,053,21 kg/m2) and 13 women
(Xage=35,2 9,6 years, Xweight = 68,2112,6 kg, Xheight
=162,84,9 cm, Xbmi=25,835,88 kg/m2). The resting
metabolic rate measurements of the study group
were measured with a COSMED K5 instrument. The
height dimensions for the estimation formulas were
measured with the Holtain Portable Stadiometer and
the body weights with the Tanita MC 780 instrument.
The research group was provided with a silent and
dim environment for the room where the measurement
was made, and keeping the temperature at 20-
22°C during the tests. The measurement of resting
metabolic rate of the study group was started for
each participant between 8-9 hours in the morning and
after resting in a supine position extending for 20 minutes.
The resting metabolic rate measurement lasted 15
minutes and the last 10 minutes were recorded. Bland-
Altman method and regression analysis were applied to
the resting metabolic rate obtained from Cosmed K5 device
and SPSS 17.0 package program for harmony between
the values obtained from Harris-Benedict, Mifflin,
Liu’s, Maffeis, Schofield and WHO estimation formulas.
For significance level P<0.05 was taken. When the regression
analyzes are examined, it has been determined
that the values obtained from men in the estimation
formulas are higher than those obtained from females.
Since men and women who constitute our research
group were included in the overweight population, we
concluded that Miflin in males and Maffeis estimation in
females were the most appropriate predictive equation
to be used for estimating the resting metabolic rate for
males and females in similar populations.
