Divan poets give place to settlements on various occasions in their poems, so much so that in the Classical literature, literary genres that mention only settlements have emerged in time. In classical literature, many works were written about cities in the genres of shahrangiz, shahrashub and biladiye. These verses are of great significance for reflecting the general view of the Ottoman settlements in that period. One of the poets who wrote such poems is Ishaq Chalabi, the divan poet from Skopje, who lived in the 16th century. The poet included the beautiful women and beauties of the cities he visited in his poems, and wrote a shahrangiz for Bursa and another one for Skopje. Since the poet is from Skopje and spent most of his life there, the city of Skopje holds an important place in his poems.
In this study, in general terms, how Ishaq chalabi of Skopje mentioned the city of Skopje in his poems, especially in his masnavi titled “Şehrengîz-i Mahbûbân-ı Vilâyet-i Üsküb” and the general interpretation of the 16th century Ottoman Skopje in his poem will be dealt with.
