Social anxiety has been explained as a fear of social behavior that is observed, examined and evaluated by the environment. School burnout, feeling of inadequacy due to excessive school demands, feeling exhausted, insensitive towards school, and an independent and cynical attitude were defined. Findings in the related literature suggest that the high level of social anxiety in adolescents may increase the level of school burnout. The purpose of this research that the study of the relationship between social anxiety and school burnout in athletes and non-athlete adolescents. The sample of the study consists of 387 students who do sports (n = 203) and who do not sports (n = 184) aged 13-15 in Ankara, Çorum and Samsun provinces in the 2019-2020 academic year. The average age of the participants is ± 14.24. The data of the research were collected with Personal Information Form, Social Anxiety Scale in Adolescents and School Burnout Scale. Non-parametric tests Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis and Pearson Correlation tests were used in the analysis of the data. The level of significance was accepted as p<0.05 in the analysis. According to the results of the research, the adolescent athletes have experienced a low sense of personal accomplishment compared to non-athletes. There is no relationship between sport and social anxiety. School burnout levels of adolescents with high social anxiety levels are also high. Besides, social anxiety levels of male participants are higher than girls. On the other hand, age, duration of athletics and weekly training time are not an important determining factor on adolescents' level of social anxiety and school burnout.
