Metaverse Nedir? Literatür Art Alanı Bağlamında Yeni Bir Tanım Önerisi

Öz

2000 yılından itibaren yeni iletişim teknolojilerinin hızlı bir şekilde gelişmesi ile metaverse dünyasına yönelik bir evrilmenin meydana geldiği bilinmektedir. Bu dünya, Türkiye’de özellikle son yıllarda farklı çevreler tarafından yoğun bir şekilde dile getirilmekte, tanımlanırken sosyal bilimlerdeki birçok kavram gibi farklı yönleri vurgulanmakta; ancak genel kabul gören bir tanımdan söz etmek mümkün olmamaktadır. Bu doğrultuda bu çalışmada ulusal ve uluslararası yayınlarda metaverse’ün hangi kavramlarla tanımlandığını ve bu tanımlarda hangi kavramların daha çok vurgulandığını belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Metaverse’ün ne olduğu, metaverse ile ilgili üzerinde en çok durulan kavramların neler olduğu ve hangi temaların oluşturulabileceği soruları sorulmuştur. Amaç ve sorular doğrultusunda metaverse’ü açıklayan 89 tanım Maxqda 2020 programında içerik analizi yapılarak incelenmiştir. İncelemede kapsam, içerik, teknik yapı ve sosyal alan olmak üzere dört tema belirlenmiştir. Bu temalar çerçevesinde 22 kategori ve 401 kod oluşturulmuştur. İnceleme sonunda dünya, sanal, metaverse, gerçeklik, etkileşim, dijital, fiziksel, 3D, insan, kullanıcı kavramlarının en fazla sıklığa sahip oldukları görülmüş ve kapsayıcı yeni bir tanımlama yapılmıştır.

What is The Metaverse? A New Definition Proposal in the Context of the Literature Background

It is known that evolution towards the metaverse world has occurred with the rapid development of new communication technologies since 2000. This world has been intensely expressed by different people in Turkey, especially in recent years. While defining the metaverse, different aspects are emphasized like many concepts in social sciences; however, it is not possible to talk about a generally accepted definition. Accordingly, in this study, it is aimed to determine with which concepts metaverse is defined in national and international publications and which concepts are emphasized more in these definitions. Questions were asked about what the metaverse is, what the most emphasized concepts about metaverse are, and which themes can be created. In line with the purpose and questions, 89 definitions explaining the metaverse were analyzed by content analysis in the Maxqda 2020 program. In the review, four themes were determined as scope, content, technical structure and social area. Within the framework of these themes, 22 categories and 401 codes were created. At the end of the review, it was seen that the concepts of world, virtual, metaverse, reality, interaction, digital, physical, 3D, human and user had the highest frequency and an inclusive new definition was made.
