The boundaries of the sancak of Amid in the north included the mountai- nous areas of Hini, Tercil and Kulb. The height of these chairis of mountains which were the continuation of South-Eastern Tauruses varied from 1500- 2500 meters. In the south its bounderies reached the northern foot of the mountains in the north of Mardin; in the east ît stretched as far as Raman mountain (1228 m.); in the west and south-west it included Karacadağ moun- tain (1919 m.) and even further down in the south-vvest a nahiye called Tilek Ören (1) fell withir. its boundaries. The region of the nâhiye of Amid which formed a plateau varied between 500-1000 meters in height. The most impor- tant water-sources of the sancak was the Tigris and its tributaries. However it must be pointed out that many villagers most probably dug wells to meet their needs for drinking water and even irrigation (2).
