The aim of this study is to compare the novel “Fatih-Harbiye”, which was first published in 1931 by Peyami Safa, one of the leading writers of Turkish literature, and Uwe Timm's “Am Beispiel meines Bruders (In the Shadow of My Brother)”. The starting point of the comparison is intergenerational conflict, which is a prominent issue featured in both works. In “Am Beispiel Meines Bruders”, Uwe Timm's attitude towards Hitler-era war policies and genocides becomes evident in his views on his father's pro-Nazi nature. The author writes about the reckoning of the past, both at the level of family members and society, especially in the years when the war was lost and a new Germany was built. In the novel “Fatih-Harbiye”, the character Neriman was penned as an indicator of Turkey's establishment at the beginning of the century and its search for identity in this new world order. It is problematized how the pairing of the West and civilization affects Neriman's spirit as a Turkish woman. Based on the main elements of the novel analysis method, the question of how the authors literalized this intergenerational conflict will be answered. The dimensions of these elements, which can be listed as time, place, plot, character and narrator, become apparent in the works, the balance between them and the reasons for the choices of the authors will be discussed.
