CHİHARU SHİOTA’NIN ENSTALASYONLARINDA GÜNDELİK NESNELERİN VARLIK VE YOKLUK DURUMU

Öz

Modern sanat hareketlerinin başlattığı ve günümüzde de artarak devam eden teknik olanak ve malzeme sınırsızlığı, sanatçıyı, içinde tercih yapmakta zorlanacağı sonsuz bir çeşitlilik evrenine yönlendirmiştir. Hem kendini gerçekleştirme hem de sanatsal ifade biçimi olarak gündelik nesnelerin kullanımı bu çeşitlilik içinde kaçınılmaz bir tercih gibi görünmektedir. Teknik olanaklar ve malzeme çeşitliliğinin yanı sıra sanatçının duygusal durumu ve sanat yapıtının anlamsal yönü de günümüz sanatında ağırlık kazanmıştır. Sanatçı sadece gördüğünü değil, artık daha çok kendi iç dünyasını ve varlık nedenini yapıtına aktarmayı istemektedir. Sanat yapıtında ise varlık, yokluk, yaşam, ölüm ve insanlığın yeryüzünde her türlü olma nedeni sorgulanmakta ve izleyiciden de bu sorguları yapması beklenmektedir. Bu tercih ve beklenti yaklaşımı içinde, 21. yüzyılın yaşayan en özgün ve yenilikçi sanatçılarından Chiharu Shiota’nın enstalasyonları, hem gündelik nesnenin kullanımı hem de eserlerin taşıdığı anlamsal boyut açısından incelemeye değer görülmektedir. Kişisel duygu ve deneyimleri, sanatının ilham kaynağı olan Shiota’nın bunu, bireyler arasındaki ilişkilere dayandırarak evrensel sorulara kadar genişletmesi varlık ve yokluk durumuna dair yeni sorgulamaları beraberinde getirmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Shiota’nın ipliklerle kurguladığı enstalasyonlar üzerinden, varlık ve yokluk kavramına, gündelik nesneler aracılığıyla yeni tanımlar eklenebileceğinin ve bu yeni tanımların sanat eserinde yeni bağlamlar yaratabileceğinin önemi vurgulanmaktadır. Bu amaçla Shiota’nın sanatsal sorgulamalarını, varoluşsal sorgulamalarla ilişkilendirdiği ve bu ilişkilerin etkili olduğu enstalasyonları nitel yöntemlerle incelenmiştir.

THE PRESENCE AND ABSENCE OF EVERYDAY OBJECTS IN CHIHARU SHIOTA'S INSTALLATIONS

Öz

The unlimitedness of technical possibilities and materials, which was initiated by the modern movements of art and continues today increasingly, has guided the artist to an infinite universe of diversity where he will have difficulty in making choices. The use of everyday objects in the form of both self-fulfillment and artistic expression looks like an inevitable choice in such diversity. Besides the technical possibilities and diversity of materials, emotional state of the artist and semantic dimension of the work of art have gained importance in today's art. The artist not only wants to reflect what he sees but rather his inner world and the reason for his presence in his work of art. In the work of art, the reason for presence, absence, life and death and all kinds of reasons for existence of humanity on earth are questioned and the audience is expected to question the same. In line with this approach of choice and expectation, the installations of Chiharu Shiota, one of the most original and innovative artists of the 21st century, are deemed worthy of studying in terms of both the use of the everyday objects and the semantic dimension of the works of art. That Shiota, who is inspired by his personal emotions and experiences in his works of art, extends them to universal questions based on the relationships between individuals leads to new questions about the state of presence and absence. This study highlights the importance of the ability to add new definitions to the concept of presence and absence through everyday objects and that such new definitions can create new contexts in the work of art, based on the installations constructed by Shiota with threads. To that end, the installations where Shiota relates his artistic questions to existential questions and such relations are effective were studied using qualitative methods.
