This study is aimed to examine the expanded conceptual model of maternal gatekeeping, which is defined in two broad types and eight subcategories, in terms of various mother-specific variables. A total of 385 mothers with a preschool child with a mean age of 32.71 (SD = 4.17) participated in the study. The participants were asked to fill in the Maternal Gatekeeping Scale-Mother Form, Semantic Differentiation Scale-Myself as Mother, Parenting Daily Hassles Scale, Gender Roles Attitude Scale, Perception Measurement for Father’s Role, Parental Self-Efficacy Scale and, the demographic information form. As a result of the K-Means Clustering Analysis carried out to establish the maternal gatekeeping subcategories, four distinguishable maternal gatekeeping subcategories were obtained. Among these types, which represent polarized mothers, the most common one was facilitative gate openers; the least common was passive gate snubbers. According to the results of One-Way Analyses of Variance, it was found that mothers with high maternal self-assessment and a more positive perception of their spouse's parenting role and competency were more likely to show maternal gatekeeping subcategories with higher levels of encouragement. It was observed that mothers with high daily hassles in raising children and high attitudes to traditional gender roles adopted subcategories with high discouragement levels. It is thought that the results of the study will form a framework for the limited literature on maternal gatekeeping types. However, further studies are needed to understand the subcategories of maternal gatekeeping in the future.
