Minister of Public Finance Cavit Bey, who entered Turkish political history as one of the prominent figures of the Committee of Union and Progress Party, is an important thinker and statesman who has left his mark on the last period of the Ottoman State with is experience in political, social and economic issues. Cavit Bey, who served in various levels of the Ottoman State from the second constitutional era to the end of the First World War, took an influential role in determining the economic policies of the Committee of Union and Progress Party with is position as minister of public finance, which he undertook during this time. The name of Ottoman Credit National Bank first financial institution was established under the leadership of Cavit Bey at the beginning of 1917, on the basis of the economic difficulties faced by the Ottoman Empire with the entry of the First World War, especially with the Ottoman Bank. Although Ottoman Credit National Bank was established in the last period of the Ottoman Empire, it continued its existence for a certain period of time and was merged with Türkiye İş Bank in 1927. Despite the short life of the Ottoman Credit National Bank, it made a great contribution to the development of national banking in Turkey. In this study, the importance of the Ottoman Credit National Bank which was one of the important developments in the way of creating a national economy in the Ottoman Empire, and the role of Cavit Bey in the establishment of the bank were discussed. In addition, the effects of national economic thought on Turkish society were tried to be revealed.
