At the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the existence of a practice that was the subject of hadiths and reached us with narrations was known. This practice had started with a destruction order against dogs to remove the source of the increasing disease in the streets of Medina. Then, the validity of the order had been reduced in scope and disappeared. And the value that Islam gives to animals has been understood not through this particular practice, but through universal practices. The rumors that have come to us about the order to kill dogs have been examined in the framework of al-Kutub al-Tis‘ah, in absolute and special headings, under the main heading of evaluation. The opinion was stated by making proof criticism. While we were maintaining the process of performing criticism in narration with the informations and impressions obtained from tabakat books we also benefited from a few essential commentaries of al-Kutub al-Sittah, for text criticism. The second main title deals with the universal view of Islam on animals. That Prophet Muhammeds being mentioned about his caring and mercy not only for humanity but also for many creatures, is an answer to ambiguity whether killing a dog is appropriate or not. From another view, since killing a dog can bring negative impressions for Islam, it has been tried to be explained with the examples of the universal view in the second title.
