It is seen that the concept of property is mentioned in the Qur’ān from
three different dimensions: as the property of Allah in the sense of the
authority of Him over the existence, human’s property in the sense of the sovereignty
and as being wealthy in the sense of ownership. The metaphorical/intangible
dimension which is related to the authority is used much more than the tangible
side of the meaning. The concept of property in the Qur’ān, comes to the
forefront as an umbrella concept which includes the meaning that directly
possessing authority or commodity both for Allah and humans. This makes the
concept important in accordance with the overall message of the Qur’ān that one
should develop a balanced viewpoint taking both the tangible and intangible aspects
of an issue. In this regard, the concept of property is mentioned in the Qur’ān
in the contexts that Allah is the sole and supreme owner/authority, He endears
to possess property, His authority/property should not be given to the
dissolute, He can give the property to whom He wishes and take it back from
whom He wishes and He is not liable for this.
