The aim of this study is to examine the messages conveyed by foreign guests who addressed the Turkish Grand National Assembly. It is understood that foreign guests had participated the ceremonies at the TGNA between 1985 and 1992 continuously and also in the years 1994, 1995, 1998 and 2000 they had addressed the General Assembly. They had talked about global developments and happenings in Turkey, and guests from Europe especially emphasized on issues arising out of the military coup of 12 September 1980. As a conclusion it would be beneficial to maintain such visits which will allow countries and societies to know each other better. Istanbul was occupied by the Entente States on 16 March 1920. This was a new phase for National Struggle and it was time for Istanbul to be completely deactivated. After the announcement of a new assembly would be convened in Ankara (with extraordinary Powers), The Grand National Assembly was inaugurated on 23 April 1920. This development which also formed the legal infrastructure of the National Struggle, reached a happy end with the establishment of a new Turkish state. In order to ensure that this victory is not forgotten, the date “April 23” was adopted as a national holiday on April 23, 1921. On same days the Society of “Himaye-i Etfal – Children Protection Foundation” declared this special day as “children's day” and since then 23 Nisan was also accepted as the children's day and celebrated every year. On 17 March 1981 the name of this holiday was changed to “National Sovereignty and Children's Day". Besides celebrations with various ceremonies and events, it has become tradition for foreign parliamentarians and delegations invited to Turkish Grand National Assembly and give speeches. In these speeches, guests shared greetings with Atatürk and modernization of Turkey, as well as global and Turkey-oriented political evaluations.
