In today's world, great interest in child rearing has dramatically affected both the position of the child and parenting practices. For this reason, parenting studies have gained great importance. Parenting is mostly discussed with the dimensions of support and control in the literature. At this point, the supportive attitude of the parents has always been associated with positive behaviors for the child. However, the effect of parents' controlling attitude on the child may differ depending on the culture. In the literature, it has been determined that parental control behavior, which is associated with negative behaviors in childhood, is associated with positive behaviors in Asian culture. In this respect, parental control can be considered as a dynamic element. Identifying and evaluating the factors that provide this dynamism will be beneficial for a better understanding of parental control. However, there is no current study in the literature that reviews the factors affecting parental control. In this review study, firstly, the conceptual framework regarding parental control behavior was discussed, and then the factors affecting parental control behavior were explained by classifying them under parental characteristics, child characteristics, and contextual characteristics.
