Çalışma  zeytinin ilk kültüre alındığı yerlerden birisi
olarak kabul edilen Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti’nde yürütülmüştür. KKTC

Study  was
conducted in in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus where it is commonly
accepted that the first cultivation of olive realized. Among local people,
known as “Yerli” olive-type has grown widely; however mainly the Cretan olive
and some other Turkish olive varieties has a partial spread on the island. In
this study, natural olive populations were investigate based on thousands of
years of olive culture in the region. In this context, 47 different types of
pomological research were conducted in Girne, Karşıyaka, Lapta region in
October 2016; oil ratio in the fresh types of samples ranged between 26.28% to
1.00% as a result. Containing oil content of genotypes were found; 4 types with
above 22.00%. Investigation of the types of fruit weight ranged between 0.65 g
to 3.86 g. 28 types of fruit size is smaller than 2.00 g, 19 types are between
2.00-4.00 g have been identified. These results, obtained from the study,
suggest that genetic variation in the region good for olives in general. With further
studies to be done in the future, it is possible to develop of new table and
oil olives.
