Chor Foon TANG is currently an Associate Professor of Economics at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) (formerly known as the Centre for Policy Research and International Studies, CenPRIS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics from the University of Malaya (UM) in 2014. Prior to entering academia, he spent several years working in various commercial industries, ranging from financial services to manufacturing. Since 2006, he has been actively involved in academic research, with his seminal research findings published in various reputable academic journals in 2007. His research primarily focuses on macroeconomics and economic development, particularly examining the growth catalysts and their behaviour such as tourism, energy consumption, direct investment, savings, etc., utilising both time series and panel data econometric modelling. He has published over 120 research articles in major international and local peer-reviewed journals, chapters in research books, proceedings, and discussion papers. In addition, he serves as an editor, editorial board member, and reviewer for a wide range of reputable international and local scholarly journals, books, and research grant applications. Dr. Tang is the winner of the 2024 Malaysia Scopus Research Excellence Awards conferred by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) Malaysia and Elsevier. Furhermore, the Research Papers in Economics (RePEc) ranks him among Malaysia and ASEAN's Top 10% of Economists. The comprehensive Bibliometric Study of 2015 by MOSTI in Malaysia also cited him as the 10th Top Researchers in Malaysia based on the number of articles published in journals indexed by ISI-WoS – Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). The Stanford University (United States) also recognised him as one of the Top 2% of Scientists in the World in the field of Economics since 2020. His outstanding achievements in research and publications have earned him several national and international prestigious awards and scholarships, including the Bright Sparks Scholarship in 2010, the 2012 UM Excellence Awards, the 2015-2021 USM Hall of Fame Awards, the 2018 USM Merit Rewards, the 2015 Applied Energy Awards, and the 2016 USM Excellent Service Awards.
