Abstract
Today's globalization processes have made it necessary to develop strategies involving the locals. This representation results in the evaluation of periodical and non-time events in the international arena as competitiveness between cities. The fact that the service sector gradually comes to the fore with globalization is the result of such a trend. EXPO is one of these temporary exhibitions. Because of Turkey's membership, nomination, and hosting processes EXPO disputes are on the agenda of the country. As a mega event, EXPOs contribute to cities in different fields. It is important for the global circulation of the city image, a high number of visitors, leaving permanent structures and areas in cities, and completing large infrastructure activities in a short time. Also, it enables all people to share information and to produce and exhibit innovative approaches through a determined global theme/problem. The fact that the city takes an all-out initiative enables the production of urban strategies suitable for the theme and realization of the buildings and areas in parallel with the theme. In the study, the hosting of global events on a global scale, and the definition of EXPO, one of these events, were examined. Then, during the EXPO process that started with the city of Izmir, the subject was addressed through a proposal project made in Izmir.
