Abstract
Ḥifẓ education aims to memorize the whole Qurʾān, is officially given in Qurʾān courses affiliated with the Presidency of Religious Affairs. This education is mostly given in boarding Qurʾān courses and is effective on the psycho-social state of the individual. In this study, which was prepared based on the survey method, the effects of ḥifẓ education on the personality traits of the individual were investigated. The sample of this research, consists of a total of 189 individuals, 105 women and 84 men, who received university education. While 101 of the participants are hafiz, 88 are not. The data of the study were obtained from three separate data sets named "non-ḥāfiẓ", "ḥāfiẓ individuals" and "collective data". Age, gender, socio-economic level, the type of school graduated and the status of being a ḥāfiẓ were analysed according to the Adjective-Based Personality Test (ABPT) used in the study, and compared with the relevant literature. According to the results of the evaluations, there is no significant difference according to age, socio-economic level and boarding status of the course. It was observed that the differentiation according to gender and graduation type was in the non-ḥāfiẓ data set. It was observed that the ḥāfiẓ individuals differed significantly from the non-ḥāfiẓ individuals in the sub-factor of agreeableness and the ABPT scale. Finally, it was determined that the individuals who completed the ḥifẓ education in more than two years differed negatively from those who completed it in a shorter time in terms of their personality traits.
