PUBLICATION ETHICS STATEMENT
The Social Science Journal of Thought and Society; upholds to the highest standards of publication ethics and adheres to the ethical publishing principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA). The Social Science Journal of Thought and Society is committed to upholding ethical responsibilities in accordance with the standards established by the Education Council Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive. that editors, authors, and referees are informed of these responsibilities concerning the scientific articles submitted for publication.
All submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not currently under evaluation by another journal. Each manuscript undergoes a double-blind review process conducted by one of the editors and at least two referees. Unethical behaviors, including but not limited to plagiarism, duplication, false or denied authorship, fabrication of research or data, article slicing, publication by slicing, copyright infringement, and concealment of conflicts of interest, are strictly prohibited.
All articles that fail to adhere to established ethical standards will be retracted from publication. This policy also encompasses articles that exhibit potential irregularities or inappropriate content identified post-publication.
In the event of potential misuse or violations of publication ethics, the Social Science Journal of Thought and Society considers the publication ethics flowcharts established by COPE (https://publicationethics.org/resources/flowcharts) as well as the Council of Higher Education's Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive (http://www.yok.gov.tr/web/guest/icerik/-/journal_content/56_INSTANCE_rEHF8BIsfYRx/10279/18187).
Manuscripts submitted to the Social Science Journal of Thought and Society for evaluation must not have been previously published in any other medium, including full-text papers presented at conferences and symposiums, book chapters, or any other format. Additionally, manuscripts must not be under consideration for publication by another journal during the evaluation process. The content of the submitted studies must remain unchanged and must not have been published in any other language.
The articles submitted to our journal undergo an initial evaluation by the editorial board. During this stage, submissions that do not meet the required standards of form and content are rejected prior to the commencement of the refereeing process. For those studies that successfully pass the editorial assessment, the refereeing process is initiated. A double-blind refereeing system is employed in the evaluation of articles, ensuring the anonymity of both authors and referees.
Articles that successfully undergo the preliminary evaluation are forwarded to two referees for review. In the event that one of the referees provides a negative assessment, the article will be submitted to a third referee for further evaluation. For the article to be considered for publication, it is necessary to obtain a favorable opinion from at least two referees.
The journal retains the authority to annul the evaluations provided by referees that are deemed unsuitable for the content or lacking in scientific rigor, and such evaluations will not be disclosed to the author.
Articles submitted to our journal are analyzed using Turnitin plagiarism detection software to verify their originality.
The copyright for the articles published in our journal is held by the Social Science Journal of Thought and Society and may not be reproduced or published in other venues.
All responsibility for the published articles rests with the author(s).
The average duration for the publication of articles is approximately 60 days.
Research Ethics
The authors bear the responsibility of ensuring that their articles adhere to established ethical guidelines.
-The principles of integrity, quality, and transparency must be upheld throughout the design of the research, the evaluation of the design, and the execution of the research.
-The research team and participants must be thoroughly informed regarding the objectives, methodologies, and potential applications of the research, as well as the requirements for participation and any associated risks, if applicable.
-The confidentiality of the information provided by research participants, as well as the anonymity of the respondents, must be safeguarded. The research design should prioritize the protection of autonomy and dignity of all participants involved.
-Research participants must engage in the study voluntarily and should not be subjected to any form of coercion.
-It is imperative to minimize harm to participants in research studies. The research design must be structured to ensure that participants are not exposed to any risks.
-The independence of the research must be clearly and explicitly articulated; any potential conflicts of interest should be disclosed.
-In experimental studies, it is imperative to obtain written informed consent from participants who choose to engage in the research. Additionally, consent must be secured from the legal guardians of minors and from guardians of individuals with confirmed mental illnesses.
-In the event that the study is to be conducted within any institution or organization, it is imperative to obtain approval from the respective institution or organization prior to the commencement of the study.
ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHORS
Manuscripts intended for submission to the Journal of Thought and Society must not have been previously published. Additionally, authors are prohibited from having their studies under consideration by more than one journal simultaneously.
The studies submitted by the author(s) are required to be original contributions. Should the author(s) draw upon or utilize the findings of other studies, it is imperative that they provide proper citations and quotations in a complete and accurate manner.
It is imperative that the names of all authors who contributed to the article are included.
Any form of plagiarism, including the inappropriate use of one's own previously published work, constitutes a significant ethical concern. Consequently, the evaluation process for articles identified as containing plagiarism is halted.
Authors are prohibited from employing discriminatory language that is based on affiliations and identities, including but not limited to gender, race, language, belief, culture, socioeconomic status, age, opinion, group membership, and sexual orientation.
It is not permissible to alter the author responsibilities of a study that has already commenced the evaluation process. This includes actions such as adding an author, modifying the order of authors, or removing an author.
The deadlines for article submissions are outlined in the call for papers associated with the forthcoming issue. Submissions received after the specified deadline will not be considered for evaluation. However, articles submitted past the deadline may be eligible for evaluation in the subsequent issue.
ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF REFEREES
Referees tasked with evaluating articles for the Journal of Thought and Society are anticipated to uphold the following ethical responsibilities.
The article must assess the study in a fair and impartial manner by following the double-blind peer review process.
Referees engage in the double-blind refereeing process and adhere to the associated requirements.
It is advisable for them to agree to evaluate only those articles that pertain to their specific field of expertise.
Referees should conduct their evaluations objectively, focusing solely on the content of the study.
Referee evaluations must adhere to principles of objectivity and constructiveness. The assessment of the article's academic merit should serve as the primary criterion for evaluation. Critiques that target the personal characteristics of the authors are deemed inappropriate. Referees are expected to provide clear explanations and reasoned arguments to substantiate their evaluations in the reports submitted to the journal's editorial team. Editors and Assistant Editors will not consider evaluations that are biased, personalized, or lacking justification, and they reserve the right to reassign referees in such instances.
Evaluation reports should refrain from incorporating offensive or derogatory language. Additionally, they should avoid personal remarks that convey hostility, slander, or insult.
Individuals are expected to complete the work they have agreed to be evaluated on in a timely manner and to uphold the aforementioned ethical responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ETHICAL OBLIGATIONS OF THE EDITORIAL TEAM
Editors possess the authority to determine whether to assess a manuscript during the preliminary review phase.
Editors implement policies for blind refereeing and evaluation processes, maintaining the confidentiality of both referees and authors throughout the evaluation period. They ensure that each article is assessed impartially and within the designated timeframe. Additionally, editors are responsible for correcting any errors, inconsistencies, or misdirections present in the articles.
Editors have a responsibility to address the informational needs of both readers and authors. In this regard, it is imperative that they meticulously assess any complaints raised by authors, referees, or readers, and provide responses that are both informative and clarifying.
Editors and Editors' Assistants are responsible for safeguarding personal data in accordance with the journal's publication and ethical guidelines.
Editors exercise due diligence in safeguarding the rights of both human and animal subjects in scholarly articles. They prioritize the documentation of explicit consent from participants involved in the research. Furthermore, they reject submissions pertaining to experimental research or studies that incorporate surveys if such studies lack approval from an ethics committee.
Articles submitted to the journal are assessed by the editor without regard to the authors' race, ethnicity, gender, worldview, or beliefs.
Double-Blind Peer Review ProcessFollowing a thorough plagiarism check, appropriate studies are assessed by the editor-in-chief or the designated field editor based on criteria such as originality, methodology, significance of the subject matter, and alignment with the journal's scope. Studies that adhere to the established formal guidelines are then forwarded for evaluation by a minimum of two referees, who may be based in Turkey or internationally, and are subjected to a rigorous double-blind peer review process. The editor grants approval for publication once the author(s) have made the necessary revisions as recommended by the referees.
