Objective: In our study, we aimed to evaluate the prevalence of the Haller cell from
sinonasal region anatomical variations and maxillary sinusitis with computed tomography
(CT)
Material and Method: Between January 1, 2017 and
May 31, 2018, multislice (Toshiba) 16-slice computed tomography (CT) images of
sinus CT images were retrospectively reviewed at İzzet Baysal State Hospital in
Bolu. The frequency of Haller cells was determined. The Mc Gay Lund
classification was used to assess mucosal changes in maxillary sinus.
Results: None of the 196
patients included in my study had any variation in one patient. The frequency
of cell deaths was found to be 15.8%. The incidence of maxillary sinusitis in
all patients was 63.7%. There was no statistically significant correlation
between the presence of hallucinogen variants and the presence of maxillary sinusitis
on the same side of the patients. The incidence of maxillary sinusitis in
patients with Haller cell variation was 54.9% in the same group whereas 63.3%
in the control group. There was no statistically significant difference between the
two groups.
Conclusion: The detailed
presentation of the anatomy of the paranasal sinuses is important both for
diagnosis and treatment.
