Abstract
Public communication, which focuses on individuals, groups, or institutions expressing themselves in the most effective way in public life, has begun to gain more importance day by day with today's changing and developing digital technologies. In this regard, the development of communication technologies in today's environment, where institutions and organizations will go to any length to better express themselves to the public, provides institutions with numerous opportunities. In particular, the fact that social media platforms are the most widely used communication tools in many parts of the world has enabled institutions and organizations to use them more actively to reach their target audience and develop an effective communication process with them. This study analyzed the official Twitter account of the Republic of Turkey Directorate of Communications in the context of public communication. For this reason, it has been attempted to ascertain how the Directorate of Communications uses the Twitter application, which currently offers enormous opportunities in the communication process, and whether such use is in compliance with the standards for public communication. The content analysis method was used to evaluate the data obtained in this direction, and the Maxqda 2022 package program was used in the content analysis process. Within the scope of the study, a coding scale was developed, 21 sub-codes were identified under eight major themes, and the collected data was analyzed descriptively and comparatively. The research led to the conclusion that the Directorate of Communications' corporate Twitter account mostly shared information and announcements and was insufficient in terms of fully meeting the public communication requirements.
