Abstract

This study aims to see the development of the literature on strategic thinking concept from a cognitive perspective and to map the existing studies. Articles published between 1989 and 2023 in the Scopus database were examined and 238 articles were obtained. The inclusion criteria (publications related to business and management, articles and book chapters, and those published in English) and exclusion criteria (articles not focused on strategic thinking and strategic cognition) were applied and finally 44 articles were chosen for bibliometric analysis. Two main procedures of bibliometric analysis followed; performance analysis to reveal the general state of the publications and scientific mapping techniques to uncover the intellectual and conceptual structure of the field. The results showed that the United States, Australia, and China were the most influential countries based on citation counts. The journals with the highest number of citations were the Journal of Management Science and Organization Science. According to the results, the studies in the field clustered around six themes; how managerial cognition shapes strategic action, behavioral foundations of strategy, philosophical origins of strategy, cognitive perspective on strategy, the social context of strategic cognition and the utility of strategic tools. In recent years, the concepts of “strategic cognition” and “learning” have gained increased prominence in the literature. The expected contribution of the research is to offer a comprehensive inventory of existing research, thereby enhancing the literature on strategic thinking from a cognitive perspective.

Stratejik Düşünme Kavramını Bilişsel Açıdan Ele Alan Çalışmaların Bibliyometrik Analizi

Year 2024, Volume: 5 Issue: 2, 172 - 194, 30.07.2024
