Engelli Adölesan Yüzücülerin Vücut Kompozisyonu, Besin Tüketimi ve Yeme Davranışlarının Karşılaştırılması ve Değerlendirilmesi

Year 2025, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 88 - 102, 20.03.2025

Abstract

Comparison and Evaluation of Body Composition, Food Consumption and Eating Behaviors of Disabled Adolescent Swimmers

Year 2025, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 88 - 102, 20.03.2025

Abstract

Background: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between food consumption and eating attitudes of disabled adolescent swimmers and body composition and selected strength parameters.
Introduction: Nutritional habits have significant effects on body composition, general health status and athletic performance. This situation may gain more specific dimensions depending on the needs of disabled individuals.
Materials and Methods: This study was conducted to evaluate the body composition, hand grip strength and nutritional habits of 8 disabled adolescent swimmers. The participants' height, weight and body composition measurements were taken; nutritional data were collected by 7-day recording and visual tracking method and analyzed with the BeBiS program. Statistical evaluation of the data was performed using SPSS 25.
Results: Participants were found to have excesses and deficiencies in macro and micronutrient intake. Strong negative relationships were found between eating preoccupation and carbohydrate, polyunsaturated fat, iron and magnesium intake; and strong positive relationships were found between total eating attitude disorders and BMI and hand grip strength.
Discussion: Food intake below or above RDA may negatively affect the nutritional balance of the participants. Inadequacies in food intake related to eating preoccupation may be due to efforts to control eating habits or limited food variety in the nutritional routine. In addition, eating attitude disorders may trigger weight gain and affect BMI changes and handgrip strength values.
Conclusion: The current study shows that excesses or deficiencies in the nutritional intake behaviors of disabled adolescent swimmers may negatively affect nutritional balance. Future studies focusing on long-term nutritional procedures with larger and more homogeneous samples and examining the subject with biochemical parameters may contribute significantly to the literature.
