The purpose of
the study is to determine as revealing the opinions of the high school students
who were researching the history of the place they were living in about local
history project. The study was designed and conducted according to the action
research pattern. 24 students studying in a high school in Mut district of
Mersin participated in the study. The working group was selected by means of
the convenience sampling method. The data were obtained from the focus group
interviews and unstructured observations of the researcher. The data obtained
were evaluated and interpreted with the content analysis method. The results of
the research show that the local history project enables the students to
recognize the place they live in and develops their communication, research and
historical thinking skills. In addition, the fact that students learned that
Mut had a deep-rooted history helped them to give a higher value to the place
they lived in and to be proud of their district. Lastly, it was determined that
the local history project positively changed the students' perspective on
history and history courses and it was exciting for students to listen to
history from a witness.
Bu araştırmanın amacı, yaşadıkları
yerin tarihini araştıran lise öğrencilerinin yerel tarih projesi hakkındaki
görüşlerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışma, eylem araştırması desenine göre
tasarlanmış ve yürütülmüştür. Çalışmaya Mersin’in Mut ilçesinde hizmet veren
bir lisede öğrenim gören 24 öğrenci katılmıştır. Çalışma grubu, kolay
ulaşılabilir örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilmiştir. Veriler, odak grup görüşmeleri
ve yapılandırılmamış gözlemlerden elde edilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler, içerik
analizi yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiş ve yorumlanmıştır. Araştırma sonuçları,
yerel tarih projesinin öğrencilerin yaşadıkları yeri tanımalarını, iletişim,
araştırma ve tarihsel düşünme becerilerinin gelişmesini sağladığını
göstermektedir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin Mut’un köklü bir tarihe sahip olduğunu
öğrenmelerini, içinde yaşadıkları yere daha fazla değer vermelerini ve
ilçeleriyle gurur duymalarını sağlamıştır. Son olarak yerel tarih projesinin
öğrencilerin tarihe ve tarih derslerine olan bakış açılarını olumlu yönde
değiştirdiği ve tarihi canlı bir şahitten dinlemenin öğrenciler için heyecan
verici olduğu belirlenmiştir.

In accordance with the ULAKBİM decision of 25 February 2020, Ethics Committee Approval must be obtained for studies on people (without age restrictions), this approval must be specified in the Method section of the article and signed Ethics Committee Approval must be uploaded to the system. Applications that do not meet these requirements will not be considered for publication.
4- New Publication Policy
Beginning from Spring 2021 issue TUHED will require all Turkish manuscripts to contain a full-text English translation. Manuscripts submitted in Turkish will be requested to have full-text English translation if they are accepted for publication after the review process.
