The study of land evaluation is of great importance in guiding decisions on land uses by taking into consideration of characteristics of land and soil which are among the important natural resources and conserving natural resources and their sustainability for future generations. This study was carried out in İdrisli, Muhsinli, Çayırlı, Kaya, Seyitali and Beyköy villages covering about 397 ha and located in Kavak district of Samsun. The aim of this study was to determine distribution of land suitability classes for land use types suggested for this area by taking into consideration of climatic properties. In this study, digital soil map scaled 1:25.000 based on series level was used. In addition, ILSEN computer model was used to determine potential land use groups and suitability classes for agricultural uses of the study area. Each land use type was compared to land mapping unit to obtain land suitability classes by means of physical and chemical characteristics of each land mapping unit obtained from soil map was integrated with values of soil fertility index model. According to obtained results, it was created map which shows potential land use groups for the study area by using GIS. Moreover, the best suitable and relatively good lands were not found in the study area. On the other hand, 51% of the total area has as problematic agricultural land, only 1.2% of the study area was determined as nonagricultural land.
