Social factors in an environment lay the ground of socialization. These factors are conceived of structures that allow participants to have information about each other in online learning settings and that initiate developing opinions (reliable, angry, sympathetic, etc.) shared by the community about each participant. In this context, it is not prudent to assert that social media platforms are increasingly becoming hosts for socialization. Ultimately, this study aimed to explore boxers’ views on perceived socialization, times spent, and shares on Instagram based on their demographic characteristics. A total of 100 boxers, 22 females (22%) and 78 males (78%), competing in the classes of stars, youth, and adults in Istanbul participated in our study online. We collected the data using the “Scale of Perceived Socialization in Online Learning Environments,” which is a 5-point Likert-type scale consisting of 10 items within a single subscale. We examined the distribution of the responses to scale items using frequency analysis while performing an independent samples t-test to analyze the variation in the scale scores by demographic characteristics of the participants and their opinions on Instagram. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 20.0 at a 95% confidence interval. The results revealed that more than half of the participants consider the number of followers (64.6%) and likes (56%) on Instagram negligible. Also, 85% of the participants see more flashy posts on Instagram out of daily routines or activities. Besides, 63% of the participants think that their Instagram account does not fully reflect themselves and their social milieu, while 64% of them or those around them have fake Instagram accounts. Moreover, we determined that 57.6% think being influenced by some people on Instagram. Finally, 71% perceive Instagram to be an effective tool in the publicity of people, and we found that those believing it had higher perceived socialization levels.
