Biological Control of Phytophthora Blight of Pepper with Antagonistic Bacteria

Öz

The aim of this study was to investigate the possibilities of biological control of Phytophthora blight in pepper by using antagonistic bacteria. For biological control studies, antagonist bacteria were isolated from pepper roots. Antimicrobial effects of bacterial antagonists against disease agent was tested by dual culture, radicle assay, potting and field experiments. A total of 95 isolates of antagonists were isolated during the study, of which 21 had mycelial inhibition rates of 20-82% in the dual culture tests. Bacterial antagonists were found to be effective for suppression of disease development up to 93% in radicle assay. Some of the antagonists tested in the pot experiments inhibited the disease, however others were found to increase disease severity. Promising results were obtained in field trials.

Biberde Phytophthora Yanıklığına Karşı Antagonist Bakterilerle Biyolojik Mücadele

Öz

Bu çalışma ile biberde Phytophthora yanıklığı hastalığına karşı antagonist bakteriler ile biyolojik mücadele olanakları araştırılmıştır. Biyolojik mücadele çalışmalarında kullanılmak üzere biber köklerinden antagonist bakteri adayları izole edilmiştir. Daha sonra antagonistlerin hastalık etmenine karşı olan antimikrobiyal etkileri ikili kültür, kökçük testi, saksı ve tarla denemeleri ile değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmalar sırasında toplam 95 adet antagonist bakteri izolatı elde edilirken, bunlardan 21 tanesi ikili kültür testlerinde hastalık etmeninin misel gelişimini %20-82 oranında engellemiştir. Kullanılan antagonistlerin yapılan kökçük testlerinde hastalık çıkışını %93’e varan bir oranda engellemek suretiyle etkili olduğu saptanmıştır. Yapılan saksı denemelerinde test edilen antagonistlerden bazıları hastalık etmenini engellerken bazılarının da hastalık şiddetini arttırdığı bulunmuştur. Biyolojik mücadelenin değerlendirildiği tarla denemelerinde ise ümitvar sonuçlar elde edilmiştir.
