PUBLICATION ETHICS AND MALPRACTICE STATEMENTS
Gümüşhane University Journal of Science and Technology Institute has published this Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statements in order to act with both ethical rules and behaviors and scientific principles, with the awareness of scientific and academic responsibility.for all publisher, editor-in-chief, editor, reviewers and authors. This Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement is based on the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors (Committee on Publication Ethics, 2011).
Duties of Editor-in-Chief & Editors
Objectivity and Publication Decisions
The Editör-in-Chief must ensure that each manuscript submitted to Gümüşhane University Journal of Science and Technology Institute is reviewed for its intellectual content without regard to the author’s race, gender, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship or political philosophy. Editor-in-Chief and editors evaluate the publications submitted to the journal by considering the academic qualities such as originality, scientificness, contribution to the field, understandability in terms of language and their suitability to the scope of the journal. The Editor-in-Chief and editors are responsible for deciding on accepting, rejecting or requesting modifications to the manuscript. In some instances, the editors may require multiple rounds of reviews and modifications. The editors communicate review result in a timely fashion. . The Editor-in-Chief review the entire process at the decision stage and finalize evaluation.
Confidentiality
The Editor-in-Chief and members of the editorial board must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers , language editors and other editorial advisers as needed.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Gümüşhane University Journal of Science and Technology Institute, Editor-in-Chief and editors cannot use unpublished materials given in a submitted study for their own research. The Editor-in-Chief assigns another member of the editorial board to carry out the preliminary review and evaluation stages of the publication in cases where there are conflicts of interest arising from cooperation or connections with any of the editors, authors, companys or institutions.
Ensuring Publication Integrity
The Editor-in-Chief and publisher examines every behavior reported to be against publication ethics, regardless of the date of publication. In the event that an unethical situation is detected according to the COPE procedures, it is their responsible for publishing a notification that there is an error, inconsistency or misdirection regarding the relevant publication.
Duties of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
The evaluation process in Gümüşhane University Journal of Science and Technology Institute is carried out with the principle of double-blind peer review. Reviewers do not contact authors directly. Evaluation forms and reviewer reports are sent to the author (s) through the journal management system by the editor. Reviewer assists in developing the article and in making a decision about the study through communication with the editor.
Confidentiality
Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except if authorized by the Editor. The Editor-in-Chief or editor may grant this authority only if there is an exceptional condition that may contribute to the review.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not accept evaluating manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the submission.
Standards of Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inacceptable. Referees should express their views clearly with appropriate supporting arguments.
Promptness
Any invited referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its timely review will be impossible should immediately notify the editor so that alternative reviewers can be contacted.
Specifying Resources
Reviewers should inform editors if they notice study is similar to any previously published work. In addition, if there are citations that are not cited in the study, they should report them to the authors.
Duties of Author(s)
Publication guidelines
Authors must follow the submission guidelines of the journal.
Originality, Plagiarism and Acknowledgement
Authors must ensure that the work they are submitting as theirs is entirely original. Authors must certify that the manuscript has not previously been published elsewhere. Authors will appropriately cite or quote the work and/or words of others. Authors should sign a declaration stating that the manuscript and the illustrations within are original, or that he/she has taken all the necessary steps to avoid breach of copyright.
Authorship of the Paper
All authors mentioned in the paper must have significantly contributed to the research. The corresponding author submitting the manuscript to the journal ensures that all contributing co- authors and no uninvolved person(s) are included in the author list. No author additions or deletions are made during or after the evaluation phase of the article.
Conflict of Interest
Authors must notify the editors of any conflicts of interest that may be construed to influence the manuscript.
Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects
If the work involves chemicals, procedures or equipment that have any unusual hazards inherent in their use, the authors must clearly identify these in the manuscript. If the study involves test subjects and guinea pigs, the authors must act in accordance with the relevant laws and institutional guidelines for all procedures in the study and must have the approval of the relevant committees / organizations.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works
When an author(s) discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the corresponding author’s obligation to promptly notify the Editor-in-Chief cooperate with them to either retract the paper or to publish an appropriate erratum.
Duties of Publisher
Access to Journal Content
The publisher undertakes to provide open access to the journal and does not charge any fees for the procedures of the application and evaluation process of the articles.
Archiving and Protection of Publications
The publishing institution archives and preserves online content using Lockss via Dergipark.
